SOFIA

I have choosen Sofia because I'm from Bulgaria and I can explain a lot of different and intresting things about the capital and the country, but here, in my first presentation I'll explain only the main things about the capital of my country.

Sofia is the capital and largest city of Bulgaria. It's located in the western, at the foot of mountain Vitosha. It's ranked as a Beta World City like Barcelona, Washington and others. It's also the second oldest city in Europe so you can see a lot of russian monuments witch were built many years ago.

At first I'll put a very simple and not that interesting monument of the center of Sofia. The thing is that the man who appears in the picture has a lot of history.
His hame is Ivan Vazov and he was a very famous writer from the end of the XIX-th and the beginning of the XX-th. He wrote a lot of poems that now are studied by students in school. He also wrote books about wars and what was happening whit people while he lived.

St. Sofia is the oldest Eastern Orthodox church in the city and it’s regarded as one of the most significant examples of early Christian architecture in the Balkans.

The National Ethnographic Museum has one of the richest collections on the Balkan Peninsula representing the traditions, arts, crafts and lifestyle of the Bulgarian people from the 17th to the 20th century.

Bulevard Tsar Osvoboditel
The boulevard ( bulevard ) is a street where you can see a lot of history or some modern monuments like in most central European capitals.

Some of the things we can see in the avenue are the University of Sofia ( St Kliment Ohridski ), the Parlament, an Important ''Russian'' Church, the Nacional Art Gallery and more.

                                                    Languages
Bulgarian is a Southern Slavic language with about 12 million speakers mainly in Bulgaria, it is mutually intelligible with Macedonian, and fairly closely related to Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian and Slovenian.
If you can speak English you won't have any problem with speaking or understanding.

Money, prices and costs
If you travel with cash be sure to bring Euros: you can change them very easily in Bulgaria and it's neighbor countries to the local currencies. Major international credit cards are accepted in larger hotels and car hire offices, and in some restaurants and shops, mainly in Sofia.
In my country you have to be carefull with the taxis you get because there are very expensive, not like in neighbor countries. You should firstly asc for an orientative price.
If you don't care you can use busses, it's a cheap and quickly alternative.
